| Zostal obdarzony nieformalnym tytulem King of Blues - "krol bluesa". Muzyka Kinga, bardzo oszczedna lecz gleboko emocjonalna zaliczana jest do stylow Memphis Blues, Modern Electric Blues i Soul Blues. B.B. King w czasie swej dlugiej kariery stal sie nestorem sceny bluesowej. Takze wielu muzykow bluesowych i rockowych roscilo sobie prawo do wywodzenia swych korzeni w muzyce Kinga - jedni z pelnym uzasadnieniem, inni bez. Nagrywanie muzyki z Kingiem traktowane bylo jako otrzymanie blogoslawieñstwa i legitymacje prawdziwego bluesmana. W rezultacie King stal sie cennym muzykiem studyjnym oraz byl czesto zapraszany do wspolpracy.
